How do you get started?

Getting started takes less than a minute: no form, no download, no card. These are the questions people ask before their very first match.

What do I need before my first chat?

A phone or computer with a modern browser and a connection. For voice you also need a working microphone. There’s no account to create and nothing to install first.

Do I have to sign up?

No. Whisperly lets you in as a guest the moment the page loads, so you can choose a mode and start a match straight away. A display name and photo are optional extras.

Which mode should I try first?

If you can talk out loud, try Audio; a voice carries more than you’d think. If the house is asleep or you feel shy, start with Text and switch another night.

Is there a time limit on a call?

Calls aren’t open-ended. A notice in the call tells you before billing starts; stay past it and the call uses coins by how long it lasts. Either of you can end it at any point.

Can I pick a country or language for random matches?

Random matches are random. To choose by country or language, open Who’s online instead, filter the list, and message the person you’d like to talk to.

Who will I be matched with?

Someone random who is online at the same moment. It could be a person in your own city or one on the other side of the world, waking up as you wind down.

The full walk-through, from the match screen to messages, is on how Whisperly works.

How do voice and text chats work?

Voice and text are the two camera-off modes, and they cover what most people come for. Here’s how each behaves once a match starts.

What happens in an audio match?

You and one stranger hear each other through your microphones. Nobody sees anything, and a Next button moves you on to someone new.

What happens in a text match?

A private chat thread opens between you and one stranger. You type to each other until one of you leaves. No camera or microphone is involved at any point.

How do I hear someone I only typed with?

Follow them, then keep in touch by message. Profiles have a Video Call button but no voice button, so a voice chat with someone new comes from an Audio match.

What does Next do?

On a voice or video match it ends the current conversation and looks for someone new.

Can a third person join a match?

No. Every match is between two people only, and there are no group rooms.

More detail on each mode: voice chat with strangers and texting strangers.

What stays private?

Keeping the camera off removes the biggest exposure. These answers cover what’s left and what you control.

Does anyone see my face?

Not on voice or text. Your camera is only used if you choose a video match or press a video call button on someone’s profile yourself.

Does the other person get my number or email?

No. Neither is needed to use Whisperly, and nothing like that is shown to the people you talk to. They see your display name and whatever you add to your profile.

How do I stop someone contacting me?

Open their profile and choose Block. If they broke the rules, choose Report as well. Both are available during a chat and after it has ended.

Can what I say be saved?

The other person could screenshot a message or record a call on their own device, and no site can prevent that. Share only what you’d be comfortable seeing repeated.

What about the app?

Whisperly runs in the browser, which raises a few practical questions about phones, laptops and microphones.

Where do I get Whisperly on my phone?

Open whisperly.cam in your phone’s browser. To keep it one tap away, use Add to Home Screen in Safari or the install option in Chrome’s menu.

Does it work on a computer?

Yes, in Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari. A headset helps on voice calls, and text chats are comfortable with a full keyboard.

My microphone isn’t picked up. What now?

Check that the browser is allowed to use the microphone for whisperly.cam, close other apps using it, then reload the page and try again.

Does it use much data?

Text uses very little. Voice uses more, but far less than video, so an audio call on mobile data is usually fine.

Step-by-step home-screen instructions are on the Whisperly app page.

How do coins work?

The money side is simple once it’s laid out: free to start, rewards along the way, coins after that. Nothing here needs a card until you decide it does.

What does it cost to try?

Nothing. New users get free matches, and the Audio and Video buttons show how many are left. Rewards that pop up while you use the site add more.

When will I need coins?

When a voice or video call carries on after the billing notice, or when your free matches and rewards run out. A few other features use coins too.

What if my coins run out mid-call?

A top-up prompt appears inside the call before the balance is gone. You can add coins there or let the call end.

What’s VIP?

An optional membership offered in the wallet alongside coin packages. Its current contents are listed there, so check before you buy.

Can coins be cashed out?

No. Coins are for use on Whisperly only and can’t be exchanged for money or given to someone else.
