Whisperly How it works

How Whisperly Works, From Hello to Goodnight

Here’s every step of Whisperly, in the order you’ll meet it: the match screen, the call or chat, the online list, profiles, messages and live rooms. We follow the camera-off path first and mark where video branches off.

What happens when you first open the match screen?

You land on the match screen as a guest, with no form in the way. At the bottom are three modes: Video, Audio and Text. It opens on Video, so if you want to keep your camera off, tap Audio or Text first, then press Start. Whisperly finds one stranger and connects you.

Audio asks your browser for the microphone the first time; Text needs no permission at all. This page follows those two paths. Video works the same way, with the camera added, and only when you pick it.

  1. Pick Audio or Text

At the bottom of the match screen. Audio asks for the microphone; Text asks for nothing.

  2. Talk to one stranger

A random person joins. If the call is about to start using coins, a notice in it tells you first.

  3. Follow, or move on

Liked them? Follow before you go and message them later. If not, start another match.

A voice or text match from start to finish

An audio match opens as a call: you hear the other person, they hear you, and neither of you sees anything. A text match opens a chat thread between the two of you. Either way, it’s one stranger and only one; no third person joins the match.

A voice match isn’t open-ended: a notice in the call tells you before billing begins, as the last section of this page explains. Leave whenever you like; the other person doesn’t get a reason and doesn’t need one. The habits that make a random voice chat go well, and the ones that suit typing to a stranger, each have their own page.

What can you do during a match?

Talk, or type if it’s a text match. On a voice match the screen also has a Next button for moving on to someone new.

You can follow the other person while you’re talking, so their profile stays within reach afterwards. And you can leave at any moment; the end of a match is always one tap away.

How do you find people without leaving it to chance?

Open Who’s online. It’s a list of people on Whisperly right now, with tabs for Popular, Online, New and Following, plus quick tabs for languages such as English, Spanish and Portuguese. Filters narrow it further by country, region or language.

From a card in the list you can open someone’s profile, send a message or start a video call. That last one uses your camera, so it’s a choice to make on purpose, not by accident.

What’s on someone’s profile?

Their display name, photos, the languages they speak, and a few counts like followers. The buttons are Follow, Message and Video Call. There’s no voice-call button on a profile, so voice conversations happen through random matches only.

The menu on a profile also holds Block and Report. Block stops that person reaching you; Report flags them for breaking the rules. Both are there whether or not you’re currently talking to them. What each mode reveals about you is laid out on the page asking is Whisperly safe.

Where your conversations live

In Messages. Every thread you start from a profile, and every text match, collects there. You can filter it to show unread conversations, people who are online, favourites or the people you follow. A stranger from last week is one tap away, as long as you followed them or wrote to them.

How do you watch a live room?

Open the Live tab in the video feed. You’ll see who’s live right now; tap one to go into the room. You can watch, send comments into the stream and send gifts, and if you’d like to talk one to one, you can start a private call with that person straight from the room.

Watching doesn’t put you on camera, and Whisperly doesn’t let viewers broadcast; live rooms are for watching and joining in through comments. You’ll find them under the Live tab whenever live rooms are available.

Where video branches off

If you never want your camera involved, it’s easy to stay on the quiet path. Video only starts when you tap it: the Video mode on the match screen, a Video Call button on a profile or online card, or a one-to-one call from a live room. Each of those uses your camera, and none of them starts on its own. Everything else on this page works with the camera off.

Free matches and coins, briefly

New users get free matches, and the Audio and Video buttons show how many are left. Rewards that pop up while you use the site add more. Calls that carry on after the billing notice use coins from the wallet, where there’s also an optional VIP membership. The details live on two pages: is Whisperly free for the free part to start with, and coins and VIP for everything after.

How Whisperly works, in short answers

How does Whisperly work for beginners?

Open the site as a guest, choose Audio or Text at the bottom of the match screen, press Start, and talk to the stranger who joins.

Can I choose who I talk to?

Yes, through Who’s online. Browse the list, filter by country or language, then message someone or start a video call.

Does Whisperly match me by interests?

No. Random matches are random. To pick someone, use the online list and its filters instead.

Can I go back to someone I skipped?

Only if you followed them first. Otherwise a skipped match is gone, and the next one is someone new.

Can I start a voice call from a profile?

No. Profiles have Message and Video Call buttons. Voice calls happen through random Audio matches.

Can I broadcast live on Whisperly?

No. You can watch live rooms, comment, send gifts and start a call from them, but viewers can’t go live.

The night is
young.

Somewhere out there, someone is staring at their ceiling, hoping a stranger calls. Be the stranger.
