Whisperly Whisperly app

The Whisperly App Lives in Your Browser

You don’t need a store to use Whisperly on your phone. Open it in the browser, add it to your home screen, and it opens like an app: voice and text matches, messages and live rooms, with your camera off.

Is there a Whisperly app you can download?

Whisperly is a web app: it runs in the browser you already have, on a phone, tablet or computer. There’s no installer file to download from us. Instead you open the site and, if you like, add it to your home screen, where it gets its own icon and opens full screen like any other app.

That means no storage used up, no store account and no waiting for updates. Every time you open it, you get the current version.

How do you add Whisperly to an iPhone home screen?

Open the site in Safari, tap the Share button, choose Add to Home Screen and confirm with Add. A Whisperly icon appears next to your other apps. Tap it and the site opens without the browser bars, ready for a voice or text match. The whole thing takes about fifteen seconds.

  1. Open whisperly.cam in Safari

Use Safari for this; it’s the browser iPhone uses for home-screen shortcuts.

  2. Tap the Share button

The square with an arrow pointing up, at the bottom of the screen (or at the top on an iPad).

  3. Choose Add to Home Screen

Scroll the list if you don’t see it, keep the name Whisperly, then tap Add.

When you first start an audio match from the icon, iOS asks for the microphone, just as it does in Safari. Allow it once and you’re set.

How do you add Whisperly to an Android home screen?

Open the site in Chrome, tap the three-dot menu in the top corner, and choose Add to Home screen or Install app, whichever your phone shows. Confirm, and the icon lands on your home screen. Whisperly may also show its own small banner offering to add itself, which does the same job.

Other Android browsers such as Samsung Internet have the same option in their menu, usually under a plus sign or “Add page to”. Once the icon is there, it behaves like an app: full screen, its own window, one tap away.

Can you use Whisperly on a PC or laptop?

Yes, and it works well there, especially for typing. Open whisperly.cam in Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari and you get the same match screen, online list and messages as on a phone. For voice, the browser asks for the microphone the first time you start an audio match.

A headset or earphones with a small mic help on a laptop, because built-in microphones pick up fan noise and keyboard clatter. Text mode needs no permission at all, which makes a laptop a comfortable place for a long typed conversation.

What works the same on every device

Everything that matters. Whichever screen you use, Whisperly has the same features and they behave the same way:

  • Random matches by voice or text, with Video as an optional third mode, chosen at the bottom of the match screen.
  • A billing notice in voice and video calls, shown before any coins are used.
  • Who’s online, a list of people you can browse and filter, then follow or message.
  • Messages, where your conversations with people you follow are kept.
  • Live rooms you can watch, comment in and send gifts to.

The step-by-step path through all of these, from the first match to finding someone again, is on the how it works page.

You don’t need an APK file

Whisperly doesn’t publish an APK, and you don’t need one. Adding the site to your home screen gives you the app experience without installing anything. If you come across a download claiming to be the Whisperly app, be careful with it: installing packages from unknown sources is one of the easiest ways to put something unwanted on your phone.

Quick fixes

Why won’t my microphone work?

Usually because the browser was told “no” once and remembered it. Check the permission first, then the device, then the connection. Most problems are fixed in under a minute with this list:

  • Check the site permission. On a computer, click the icon next to the address bar and set Microphone to Allow. On iPhone, go to Settings › Safari › Microphone; on Android, open Chrome’s site settings for whisperly.cam.
  • Check the right mic is selected. On a laptop with a headset plugged in, the browser may be listening to the wrong one.
  • Close other apps using the mic. A video call or voice recorder running in the background can hold on to it.
  • Reload the page. After changing a permission, the page needs a fresh start to pick it up.
  • Try another browser. If nothing works, a different browser rules out a settings problem in the first one.

The app and the cost

Using Whisperly on a phone costs the same as on a computer: it’s free to start, with free matches for new users and rewards that add more. The details are on the page asking is Whisperly free. If you’re weighing up whether to put it on your phone at all, the page on whether Whisperly is safe explains what the other person can and can’t learn about you.
